We would like to thank the ASC, the Naval Information Warfare Center, and the NSF Office of Polar Programs. This FAQ is designed to point out what is available on our site, and where to find the answers to some basic questions on data format, data availability and the like. There is radiosonde data from WAIS Divide during the Year of Polar Prediction - Southern Hemisphere (YOPP-SH) Special Observing Period (SOP). There are some files for December 2018 and most of January 2019. Within each year and month, there are folders for each day that there was data collected. Within each day directory, there is a list of .xml files and the original .zip file. The original .zip file is named as follows: WSD_YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS.zip. The hour, minutes, and seconds are provided in the third section of the title in UTC. Separate files for certain parameters are outlined by the following conventions: The file PtuResults.xml provides data from the radiosonde launch that was transmitted by NPP over AFTN. This file contains the correct AFTN message header information, but the data are the same as the data inRawPtu.xml. RawPtu.xml provides raw data produced by the MW32 and sent via email by WAIS field camp observers. Both RawPtu.xml and PtuResults.xml do not include wind data. StdPressureLevels.xml gives data from each of the standard pressure levels (1000, 925, 850, 700, 500, 400, 300, 250, 150, 100 hPa, and the tropopause (if available)). SurfaceObservations.xml provides the data recorded at the surface in a separate file. WindResults.xml indicates the wind data from the launch in a separate file. The full radiosonde data can be found in SynchronizedSoundingData.xml. There may be additional files with the name: WSD_tempmobil_DDMmmYY_TTZ.txt or WSDYYMMDDTT.txt , with DD being the day of the launch, Mmm or MM being the month, YY being the year, and TT being time (UTC) of launch. The .txt files are coded and can be decoded using the following link: https://www.ofcm.gov/publications/fmh/FMH3/00-entire-FMH3.pdf Information regarding Radiosondes is in Appendix E. This readme file is not completed. It will be updated to reflect what each file details.
