8911 - Jimmy Location: 77 degrees 48 minutes S, 166 degrees 43 minutes E. The AWS is located near Arrival Heights about 2.5 nm north-northeast of McMurdo. Elevation approximately 200 meters. Hex id: 8B3E2 Power: 6VDC from 18 PS-6200 6 volt gel cell batteries. Nine 12 volt gel cells and one 10 watt solar panel are used with a shunt regulator to recharge the batteries. This configuration was necessary when we discovered that the AWS drew more power than expected and there were not enough 6 volt batteries available to power both this station and 8910 through the winter. We returned on 7 December 81 in order to strengthen the supporting structure and take readings with ARGOS Test Set. Batteries were not buried due to the very hard ice covering the area.
