Greetings, An upper trough from over Western Antarctica has its axis tilted towards the Transantarctic Mountains, causing clouds to accumulate on the Ross Ice Shelf from the Bellingshausen Sea. Weak circulation means there will be little movement associated with these clouds as the low pressure system progresses towards Eastern Antarctica. A weak low pressure system develops on the shelf, providing enough collected winds to move the clouds around the Ice Shelf and northwards into the Ross Sea Sunday night. Saturday: Overcast skies will persist for the day over CIR. Visibility should be 2-4 miles in the morning in mist and increase to unrestricted by midday. Winds will be SW at 5-10 kts, increasing to SWW at 10-15kts occasionally gusting 20kts in the afternoon. Sunday: Sky conditions will be overcast throughout the day, beginning to break up and scatter overnight. The visibility will be ½ -2 in snow and fog for the majority of the day. Winds should be mostly SW at 5-10kts shifting to NW at 5-10kts later in the day. Monday: Sky conditions will be mostly clear with unrestricted visibility. Winds will be light and variable.
