To those using the South Pole Station upper air data sets:

Please be advised that the South Pole Meteorology Department has
attempted several upper air software upgrades since April 9, 1999. 
The upgrades have all yeilded unsatisfactory results and inferior 
data to that produced prior to the upgrades.  The company supplying 
the software has not been providing the level of support that the 
South Pole Meteorology Department needed in order to preserve 
the integrity of the data.  As a result, on July 20, 1999 the 
department returned to the version of software that was in use 
before the first upgrade in April.  It should be noted that the data
produced during the period of software upgrades (April 9 to July 20)
may be of questionable quality and should be used carefully.
