We were headed to recover the Hugin after its first official research mission down here. The mission was to “mow the lawn” at the edge of the ice shelf then head straight under it and back to its recovery position. After a swift and easy recovery they looked at the data and found it was a very successful mission. Once we were all set we transited to a location to deploy the final gliders. Gliders being the typical gliders and generally a little finickey we had a few issues with comms but our TARSAN Glider team had them fixed in a hurry and we did successfully deploy the last of the gliders! Our next science operation was deploying the ALR, Boaty McBoatface. We got her in the water then monitored her for about four hours before sending her off on her mission. The Artemis team got some water from the megacore and the Thor team began sampling the rest of the sediment. We recovered the Hugin that collected some water on its mission. Glastra who is studying noble gases began her sampling of the Hugin water once it was back on board. We then did another biogeochemical CTD and trace metal CTD pair. Once that was complete we did a series of CTD stations for the rest of the day. Below is a photo by Andy Robinson(ET) of the VMP team EST.
