Up to this point, the average was calculated by first determining the average maximum and minimum temperatures for the month and then averaging those two values. This change coincides with a change in the calculation of the daily average temperature. The daily average temperature is now being calculated as an average of the 24 hourly values. This change was made to conform to WMO regulations. Up to this point, the daily average was being calculated by averaging the maximum and minimum temperatures for the day. In order to have a consistent data set, we will eventually be recalculating all the daily and monthly averages as far back as our records will allow. This will take some time. A notification will be sent out upon completion of this task along with details on how to access the amended data set.
