The low pressure system is beginning to draw away from station as it decays. However, due to the strength of the low, there will likely still be periods of higher gusts and deteriorating visibility due to snow and blowing snow due to possible periods of higher winds in the afternoon and evening. As the tight pressure gradient associated with the low moves up the ice shelf as the low draws towards Western Antarctica, it may cause an increase in winds and deteriorating conditions overnight.
Later this week, a strong trough extends towards Ross Island from the north. High winds are associated with the trough. As it extends southwards onto the Ice Shelf, its pressure gradient will continue strengthening and propagate precipitation and high winds towards station. Expect conditions to quickly deteriorate and wind gusts to potentially exceed 50kts.
