Today a high pressure system engulfing Ross Island maintains mild conditions around station, producing some light winds. Some lingering low cloud cover will produce light snowfall throughout the day. Tomorrow a large and dynamically deep low pressure system tracks southwards, wrapping around Cape Adare as it enters the Ross Sea, extending its tight pressure gradient all the way across the Ross Ice Shelf. Expect conditions to begin to pick up overnight with light snow and winds at first. On Tuesday morning, the winds will increase with gusts possibly up to 50kts and persist until Wednesday. Expect persistent visibility drops associated with the high winds, snowfall, and blowing snow. The low will begin to decay and then strengthen from another low moving into the Ross Sea, reviving the strong pressure gradient and elevating the winds again. Some light snow and blowing snow may be associated with the restrengthening of the low.
