The low today draws away from Ross Island and exits the Ross Sea to the east. A tightened pressure gradient maintains moderate winds at Phoenix for long enough for a another trough to extend from the north of the Ross Sea towards station, wrapping around the terrain and causing significant gusts. On Sunday, the trough beings to break off into a low pressure system on the Ross Ice Shelf, drawing westwards and tightening its gradient along the Transantarctic Mountains, causing high winds with possible gusts >60kts.
