A low pressure system passing across the Ross Ice Shelf will drive weather at the airfield today. Brief periods of restricted visibility are possible in the afternoon due to funneling winds wrapping around White Island associated with the pressure gradient from the low on the shelf. Small eddies around Ross Island will cause some low cloud development to occur later in the day and will carry throughout tonight, progressing southwards around the island towards the airfield. Later in the week an incoming low pressure system from the north may cause unfavorable conditions at the airfield due to restricted visibility in blowing snow. However, its positioning and gust intensity are highly uncertain at this time.
Thank you,
Jenna Palmer
