A large low pressure system tracks southwards and moves onto the Ross Ice Shelf today, tightening its pressure gradient between the mountains. Expect high winds and gusts throughout the day. A small eddy will form around White Island causing periods of relatively lighter winds from the northeast. However, the predominate conditions should still be strong winds from the south with periods of visibility below a mile in snow and blowing snow. Tomorrow afternoon the low will draw away from Ross Island as a high pressure forms, lowering wind speeds in the afternoon again.
