Forecast discussion: Flow around high pressure to the southeast of Ross Island continues to cause strong easterly winds under a blanket of low clouds

enveloping McMurdo again today as a Ross Sea low elongates and tracks southward toward Roosevelt Island. Expect the high to weaken

tonight and tomorrow with winds decreasing, clouds scattering, and temps dropping to less than -30C tonight. There is the potential for fog on

Wednesday morning as skies clear out and winds become light and variable. Thursday (19 Mar) looks favorable as the lee-side low does not appear as

strong as on previous model run yesterday. Initial look at Friday (20 Mar) shows a strong Herbie type system developing on the ice shelf triggered from a Ross Sea Low

with gusts up to 70 knots at the airfield.
