Favorable conditions are expected today due to a high pressure system north of Ross Island, keeping winds relatively light. Tonight a weak low may bring in some cloud cover with very light snowfall over the airfield. On Saturday and Sunday, a large low pressure system developing on the Ross Ice Shelf will tighten its gradient along the Transantarctic Mountains as it moves towards Ross Island. The low will advect warm air towards Ross Island, causing a jump in temperatures. Snowfall is expected to start Saturday morning followed by elevated windspeeds in the afternoon, causing sustained visibility drops due to snow, blowing snow, and fog.
